Turning off this setting on your phone will make your battery last 2 hours longer!

Many people do not know — turning off some hidden or unused settings on your phone can make your battery last much longer. Below I am giving 1 important setting, which if turned off can make your battery last up to 1.5–2 hours longer.

Turn off Location Services (GPS) when not needed

Where to find it:

Android:

Settings > Location > Location Services > Off

or

Settings > Privacy > Permission Manager > Location

iPhone (iOS):

Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Off

Why it eats up battery:

If the GPS or Location feature is always on in the background

Many apps check your location unnecessarily

This uses the phone processor and sensors in the background, which drains the battery quickly

Easy solution:

Only turn it on when running Google Maps or the Ride-Sharing app

Keep Location off the rest of the time

How to turn off background apps:

On Android phones:

1. Settings > Apps > App Management > [Select an app]

You will find the “Battery Usage” or “Background Activity” option at the bottom

Select “Do not allow in background”

(or “Restrict background activity”)

2. Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization

Here you will find a list of all the apps

Tap on those that do not need to run in the background By:

Enable “Optimize” option

3. From Developer Options:

Settings > About Phone > Tap Build Number 7 times = Developer Mode will be on

Then Settings > Developer Options > “Background process limit” > Set 1 process at most (if your phone is very slow)

iPhone (iOS):

Settings > General > Background App Refresh

All apps will be shown here

You can turn off the entire feature if you want

Or keep only the necessary apps separately (e.g. Mail, WhatsApp)

Tips:

Social apps (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram) always use data in the background.

Disabling their Background Permission can save up to 40% more battery life.

Turn off Always-On Display

Disabling Always-On Display (AOD) can save 1-2 hours more battery life — especially on phones with AMOLED displays.

What is Always-On Display?

This is a feature where the clock, notifications, battery percentage, etc. can be seen on the screen even when the phone is locked.

Although the entire screen does not light up, It consumes extra battery in the background.

How to turn off AOD on Android phones:

Samsung (One UI):

Settings > Lock Screen > Always On Display > Off

Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco (MIUI):

Settings > Always-on display & Lock screen > Always-on display > Off

Realme / Oppo:

Settings > Home screen & Lock screen > Always-On Display > Turn off

Vivo:

Settings > Lock screen, home screen, and wallpaper > Always On Display > Off

iPhone (iPhone 14 Pro and later models):

Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display > Off

Tips:

Not only turning off AOD, but also using Dark Mode and turning on Auto-Brightness will help your battery last longer.

If you want, you can turn on AOD only for a specific time (for example, from 9 am to 8 pm) — this can be done with the "Schedule" option on many phones.

Using Auto-brightness

Keeping Auto-Brightness on will help your battery last longer, because it automatically adjusts your screen brightness according to the ambient light. This does not use unnecessary light, which saves battery.

How to turn on Auto-Brightness?

On Android phones:

Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness

(or may be called “Auto Brightness”)

Turn the switch on there.

On iPhone:

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness

Turn the switch on.

Benefits of Auto-Brightness:

The screen brightness automatically increases or decreases according to the surrounding light.

If the light is low, the screen gradually dims, which is also good for the eyes.

If the light is high, the screen lights up, but only as needed.

As a result, the battery consumption is reduced.

Additional tips:

The screen brightness will be automatically reduced at night or in the dark.

If necessary, use “Night Mode” or “Blue Light Filter”, which will reduce eye fatigue and save battery.

Adaptive battery on

Turn on Adaptive Battery to make your phone battery last longer!

What is Adaptive Battery?

Using Google AI technology, it can detect which apps are using the most in the background of the phone It learns whether it is or is not. Then it reduces the battery consumption of less used apps. As a result, the phone battery lasts longer.

How to turn on Adaptive Battery (on Android phones):

Go to Settings

Open the Battery option

There you will see an option called Adaptive Battery

Turn it on

On some phones this setting may be called “Battery Optimization” or “Smart Battery Management”.

Why turn on Adaptive Battery?

Infrequently used apps automatically consume less battery

Reduces the tendency of the battery to drain quickly

Battery consumption is low when the phone is slow

Ensures extended battery life
