Sajina(Drumstick) Moringa oleifera


Sajina is a type of vegetable. Its young fruit is used as a vegetable and is anti-bacterial. It is a perennial, erect, slender and medium-sized tree with drooping branches. Its leaves are small and rounded, flowers are small and white in color which are cooked and eaten as a vegetable.

Diseases of the respiratory system

Sajina leaf soup is very beneficial in respiratory diseases like asthma, bronchitis and tuberculosis. This soup is made by boiling a handful of sajina leaves in water for five minutes. It is cooled and little amount of salt, chilli powder and lemon juice are added to it.


A soup prepared by boiling the leaves, flowers and young fruits of saginar is very beneficial in preventing throat, chest and skin infections. This is because sorghum has antibacterial properties similar to penicillin and other antibiotics.

In sexual impotence, a soup made by mixing milk with sajina flowers plays an important role as a sexual tonic. It is also quite effective in curing male and female infertility.

Digestive disturbances

Sajina also works well in digestive disorders. For the treatment of cholera, dysentery, diarrhoea, colitis and jaundice, a teaspoon of fresh leaf juice mixed with honey and a glass of fresh water should be taken two or three times a day.

Urinary tract disorders

For urinary incontinence (low urine volume) and increased acidity of urine, if there is constant burning sensation in the bladder, one tablespoon of fried sajna leaf juice should be mixed with a glass of cucumber or carrot juice.


Sajna leaf juice removes acne and black spots on the face and keeps the face fresh.
