Description

Red sugar beet is a type of root vegetable. It is more colorful than other root vegetables. There are many varieties of sugar beets based on their shape. It is round, oval and oblong.

Origin and spread

Sugarbeet is thought to be native to the Mediterranean region of Europe or Western Asia. It has been used as a vegetable since the time of the Greeks and Romans. Today it is widely distributed in tropical regions.

Food quality

This vegetable is a good nutrient for good health. It contains carbohydrates, especially sugar, and small amounts of protein and fat. Sugarbeet is used in a variety of ways. It is widely used in salads, pickles and chutneys. Like potatoes, it is eaten baked or boiled or cooked. It should be cleaned well before boiling and peeled before use. Like other green vegetables, its leaves can be cooked for a short time with little water. The fresher the sugar beet, the better its flavor and the quicker it can be cooked.

Digestive disturbances

Sugarbeet juice is used to treat jaundice, hepatitis, bilious vomiting, diarrhea and dysentery. Mixing a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice with this juice increases its medicinal value and can be used as a liquid food-medicine. A tablespoon of honey mixed with fresh sugar beet juice every morning before breakfast is beneficial for gastric ulcers.

Constipation

The cellulose in sugarbeet acts as a bulking agent, increasing peristalsis, i.e. wave-like movement, and facilitating stool movement. So regular use of it is beneficial in constipation. A decoction of sugar beet is quite beneficial in chronic constipation and piles.

Blood circulation disorders

Sugarbeet juice is a good solvent for deposited inorganic calcium. It is used in the treatment of hypertension, arteriosclerosis, heart disease and varicose veins.

Kidney and gallbladder disease

A mixture of carrot and cucumber juice with sugar beet juice is a good kidney and gall bladder cleanser. It is very useful in any disturbance of these two organs.

Skin disease

The water in which the tops and roots of the sugar beet are boiled is beneficial when applied to boils, skin inflammations and acne.

Dandruff

A decoction of sugar beet mixed with a little vinegar and applied on the scalp clears dandruff.
