Fat is harmful to the body. However, this idea is not correct. Fat is also needed to properly manage all the body activities. Nutrition alone is not enough. Many vitamins and beneficial elements are soluble in fat. Fat is also needed for the functioning of those elements.

Different types of fats are necessary to maintain various balances in the body. If foods with beneficial fats are consumed in the right amounts, they accelerate the functioning of the heart, brain, and cell membranes. Fat produces energy and heat for our body to operate. In addition, it helps in the absorption and retention of vitamins A, D, E, and K. Therefore, if the right amount of fat is not consumed, the balance of various functions in the body is disrupted.

Fats are basically considered good fats and bad fats. It is important to understand the difference between these good and bad fats. Good fats, or unsaturated fats, include monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These fats can reduce bad cholesterol (LDL). They can also help reduce the risk of heart disease. Good fats are found in olive oil, nuts, and fatty fish.

On the other hand, bad fats are trans fats and high levels of saturated fats. According to the American Heart Association, trans fats are found in many processed foods. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease. Foods like butter, red meat, and cheese contain saturated fats, so these foods should be eaten in moderation.

However, not all saturated fats are equally harmful. According to the USDA, it is safe to consume less than 10 percent of your daily calories from saturated fats.
