At 12 weeks pregnant, a baby is about the size of a plum or lemon, about 2 to 2.5 inches (5-6 cm) long from head to toe.
At this stage, most of the baby major organs, bones, and muscles are formed, and important systems such as their circulatory, digestive, and urinary systems are beginning to function.
The baby can now make small movements, although they are so small that the mother cannot feel them.
Baby Size and Development Length: About 2 to 2.5 inches (5-6 cm) from head to toe. Weight: Approximately(0.5).
Major Organs: By 12 weeks, all major internal organs are present and continue to develop.
The liver will begin to produce bile to aid in digestion.
Functional Systems: The kidneys are functioning and producing urine, and the baby is swallowing and urinating amniotic fluid. The circulatory and digestive systems are also developing. Physical Features: Facial features are becoming more pronounced, and the baby fingernails and toenails are small.
The genitals are also forming, but it is too early to determine gender on an ultrasound.
Movement: The baby arms and legs are fully formed and they can bend them.
They are also making small, reflexive movements like kicking and stretching, although the mother ca not feel them yet.
