Reasons for lower back pain when sitting
Reasons for lower back pain when sitting
Lower back pain after sitting for a while is a very common problem. There may be a few common reasons behind it:
1. Sitting in the same position for a long time
Sitting in the same position for a long time puts pressure on the lower spine.
Especially if you:
Sit hunched
Sit without back support
Looking at the phone or looking down
Then more pressure is put on the lower spine and pain starts.
2. Weak muscles
In the case of those who have weak abdominal and back muscles, the spine does not get proper support when sitting.
As a result:
The muscles get strained
Slowly pain occurs
3. Minor disc or spinal problems
Sometimes the cause of pain can be:
Pressure on the disc or a slight disc bulge
Pressure on the nerve
Minor problems with the lumbar spine
If these are present, the pain is more when sitting and decreases slightly when standing up.
4. Reduce movement
Those who:
Work all day sitting
Do not exercise
Lower back stiffness may start causing pain.
Some simple solutions:
Get up and walk around every 30–40 minutes
Sit upright, keep your back supported
Do light stretching or back exercises
It is better not to sit on a chair that is too soft or too hard
You need to see a doctor if:
The pain lasts more than 1–2 weeks
Tingling or numbness in the legs
The pain is severe or makes it difficult to walk
