Hazrat Maryam Alaihis Salam

Hazrat Maryam (as) was a respected woman in Islam and a Surah of the Holy Quran is named after her — "Surah Maryam" (19th Surah). She is the mother of the righteous servant of Allah and the beloved Prophet Jesus (PBUH). Every event in the life of Maryam (as) is important in Islam and she is well known to Muslims as a pious woman.



Biography of Hazrat Maryam:


Birth and Family:

Maryam (as) was born in a respectable family. His father was Imran and mother was Hanna. Both of them were very loyal to Allah. Maryam mother made a promise to Allah before her birth that she would sacrifice her child for the sake of Allah. So Maryam (A.S.) grew up in the house of God from birth.


Living in the mosque and worshiping Allah:

Maryam (A.S.) was in worship since her childhood. Prophet Zakariyya (a.s.) used to look after him and he would see that Allah would provide him with various kinds of blessed fruits and sustenance. Zakaria (a.s.) used to be amazed and express his gratitude to Allah.


Arrival of Angel Gabriel (A.S.) and Miraculous Birth of Jesus (A.S.):

Allah Taala sent an angel to her, who informed her that she would be the mother of Isa (as). It was a miracle, because Maryam (as) was a virgin. Allah chose her as the mother of Isa (as) and arranged many trials for her. The Holy Quran states, "When the angels said, O Mary! Surely Allah will grant you a holy child from Him." (Surah Al Imran, 3:45)


People Response and Maryam (A.S.) Patience:

After the birth of Jesus (AS), Maryam (AS) had to face many questions. Many doubted him. Allah instructed him that he would answer their questions through Jesus (pbuh) without speaking. The newborn Jesus (as) then miraculously spoke and proved the purity and innocence of his mother Mary (as).


Sanctity and Dignity:

Allah Taala said in the Quran about Maryam, "Surely Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Ibrahim and the family of Imran over the people of the world." (Surat al-Imran, 3:33) Thus the sanctity and dignity of Maryam (as) is honored.


Maryam (as) as a symbol of Islam:

The life of Maryam (as) is a symbol of purity for Muslims and an example of obedience to Allah. She is considered an honorable woman in Islam and her name and personality are spoken with reverence in Muslim society.


Position of Maryam (as) in Quran:

Important events in the life of Maryam (as) are described in various places in the Quran, especially in Surah Maryam and Surah Al-Imran. She is mentioned as a pious woman by Allah and exalted in the Quran.


Teachings of Maryam (as):

Patience and Reliance: Patience in difficult situations and reliance on Allah.

Belief and Purity: Obedience to Allah commandments and steadfast trust in Him.

Dignity of the family: His life shows how important the role of children is in the religious family and society.

Every incident in the life of Hazrat Maryam (as) is an inspiration for Muslims and the ultimate example of submission to Allah.
